10 Things You Didn’t Know About Vicki Bohlsen

Where are you from?

I was born and lived in Speedway, Indiana. Later, I moved to Greenwood where I went to Center Grove High School. I went to college in Greencastle at Depauw University. I am a Hoosier through and through. The only time I lived outside of Indiana was when I was living in New York City! I used to say I wanted to retire to NYC because I love it so much.

What were you doing prior to Bohlsen Group?

Before starting Bohlsen Group in 2010,  I worked in PR and marketing positions in national television, local television, at an event and entertainment agency, and as an independent contractor.

What do you like most about Bohlsen Group?

Getting B Corp “Best for the World” recognition really sums it up! I think more than anything, I love how over the years we have been able to position ourselves to be mission aligned with our culture and our clients. I am totally passionate about working with a great team making business a force for good while working with clients who use their business as a force for good.

What’s something about you that we wouldn’t be able to tell from your resume or LinkedIn page?

I was once a chef in Nantucket at a five-star restaurant. I needed to make a lot of money before my senior year of college because I needed to pay for that last year. So, upon a friend’s recommendation, I moved to Nantucket and took on a few jobs. The place where I waitressed at was going to close for lunch service because the chef quit. I needed them to stay open so I could keep saving up money, so I said I would become the chef to keep it running. I cooked for lunch and prepared for their dinner service. I think this is where my love of cooking (and eating) came from.

What's your favorite book or podcast?

I absolutely love anything about the Kennedys. I think I have, literally, read every memoir, biography and nonfiction book about them or by people who knew them.

I read much more (mainly memoirs and biographies) than I listen to podcasts, but I love to do both. I listen to Crime Junkie, Swindled, Glennon Doyle’s We Can Do Hard Things, Anna Faris’ Unqualified and, of course, my own (Taking Care in Business).

When you aren’t at work where can we find you?

When I’m not working I would love to be traveling. It’s hard to pick a favorite place I’ve been - maybe the Azores. I’ve traveled all over Europe, in the Caribbean, to the Bahamas, Mexico and Canada. I’ve seen 48 states. I love, love, love the Amalfi Coast in Italy.  A trip to van camp throughout Iceland this summer had to be canceled, so that is next up. And Asia.

Really, I am a homebody and just love to piddle at my house or with my kids. When I do venture out, it’s usually to do a HOTWORX workout, hit a hardware store for a DIY project I’m working on, or go out to eat.

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I wanted to be either a bed and breakfast owner or a nurse. Both are long stories to tell over a glass of wine.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

This is impossible. If I were on death row, I would pick steak and potatoes or regular ‘ole spaghetti and meatballs. And a glass of wine.

If I could only pick one meal for the rest of my life? Would “vegetables and fruit” count? That question is too hard. At least let me say what “cuisine” I would eat for the rest of my life… Oops, no, can’t even answer that.

What celebrity would you want to meet for a cup of coffee?

The first one that came to mind is Jaqueline Kennedy, of course!

If you were to be on a reality television show, which would it be?

The “Senior” Bachelorette. Haha no, really, it would be Chopped.
