Client: The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir is one of the city’s most established musical institutions. With 150 volunteer singers and dozens of annual performances, it is one of the most active symphonic choruses in the nation.
Challenge: The choir’s annual Festival of Carols holiday concerts coincided in 2011 with the 75th anniversary season and the first CD release (Elijah) in five years. Bohlsen Group was charged with getting local media coverage surrounding these milestones while simultaneously increasing holiday concert publicity.
Solution: Bohlsen Group knew that the three angles could work in tandem, so we tailored concert-focused press releases and media outreach to also reflect the anniversary season and new recording.
We targeted Indianapolis media outlets and journalists that covered music, arts and entertainment. Capitalizing on local angles, we reached out to community newspapers in choir members’ areas. We also capitalized on the choir’s work with the Emmerich Manual High School choir, targeting education-focused media and positioning the choir as a resource for comment on the importance of public school music programs.
To supplement our efforts as the holiday season took off, we positioned the choir for on-air caroling opportunities.
Results: Bohlsen Group was able to secure advance interviews for the choir with WIBC Spotlight Indy, WIBC News, WZPL, WXNT, The Indianapolis Star and WISH-TV Indy Style.
The Indianapolis Symphonic Choir was also featured in The Indianapolis Business Journal, The Indianapolis Star, Visit Indy and NUVO.
