Client: Colleen Kleven, a Canadian indie author through client Author Solutions Inc., is a motivational speaker and copywriter who knows firsthand what it’s like to be a busy mom. She wrote The Beginner’s Guide to Chick Night to help women across the globe learn how to put themselves back on their to-do lists – and feel good about it.
Challenge: Getting publicity for a first-time author and one that is self-published comes with immediate
obstacles. Many book reviewers refuse to look at an independently published book. Book bloggers are more receptive, but reaching out to them is time-consuming, and most of the successful bloggers have waiting lists.
Solution: Bohlsen Group realized that finding various angles to pitch would be key to this book’s success. Women are notorious for being multitaskers who sacrifice their own wants and needs for others, so tapping into this accepted outlook of women would be vital.
We tied the book and author into such angles as the increasing divorce rate and how happier women could lead to fewer divorces; why foster moms especially need to take time for themselves; tips for making a night off successful; why it’s OK to leave the kids with a trusted friend or family member one evening a month; etc.
Results: Bohlsen Group secured coverage throughout the U.S. and Canada and book requests from South Africa to the U.K. Media covering the book included Calgary’s Child Magazine. The Healthy Moms Magazine, My Baby’s Green blog, Scott Turnbull Morning Show on CHAS-FM, PARENTGUIDE News, a Texas foster families’ website, National Post, CreatedByChicks.com and others.
