Client: Anita Skocz, a Florida-based indie author publishing through client Author Solutions Inc., is a passionate storyteller with strong family ties who has used her inner journeys to channel life lessons into an easy-to-read children’s book. Kite Tale is an inspiring story of a young boy who unexpectedly learns some valuable lessons about growing up after spending quality time with his wise grandfather.

Challenge: Social media is one of the most important tools in a publicist’s tool belt, and it remains true when what you’re publicizing is a book. While many first-time authors recognize the importance of social media, many have never been properly instructed on the basic concepts and strategic uses of social media. First-time users also often fear the unexpected and hesitate to allow themselves to learn new concepts and technologies.

Solution: Bohlsen Group realized that authors needed comprehensive social media training techniques that were tailored to each person’s level of expertise and comfort. Only with intensive one-on-one training would we be able to teach a first-time social media user the intricacies of the most impactful social media networks.

The publicist completed six one-hour social media trainings with Skocz that covered the basics of blogging, Facebook and Twitter, as well as the best strategies for getting maximum exposure for the author and for the book on each social media network.

To complement the training, we sent how-to documents to Skocz in order to allow her learning to continue after our formal training had ended. She was encouraged to learn about her social media networks by asking questions during training and by exploring the networks on her own.

Results: After completing all six social media trainings, Skocz felt comfortable enough to take over complete control of her social media networks to promote her book. Throughout the six-week campaign, she increased her Twitter followers from 0 to 705. Since the campaign has ended, she has increased her followers to 1,404 and has tweeted 3,371 times. During the campaign, Skocz posted more 30 blog posts and saw a great response on both Twitter and Facebook.
